The solar mounting system provides the base of your solar system, ensuring its efficiency and your return of investment.

Mounting systems are usually made from aluminum or stainless steel and provide the structural support to protect your solar panels from wind-induced failure and other potential weather hazards.

Solar mounting systems can be customized to suit any photovoltaic (PV) project by changing the orientation, elevation and angle of the solar array to maximize its energy productivity.

They come in various styles to suit the installation, such as tilt frame, tilt legs, flat roof-mounted or ground-mounted.

A good mounting system is easy to install and made from quality materials that protect a system’s cables and structural integrity.

All of our solar mounting equipment suppliers are approved by the  CEC (Clean Energy Council) which means that their products tick all the boxes when it comes to compliance and safety.

 

The CEC has put in place stringent criteria for Solar Mounting Equipment:

STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY

All our suppliers build their products according to a variety of structural certificates and Australian standards, just like Quality Solar System adheres to a variety of Australian standards when planning and installing your system.

BUILDING HEIGHT

All solar mounting systems have a limit on building height, usually 10m, sometimes 20m. We will ensure that your installation adheres to all such specifications.

ROOF ZONES

We will ensure that your solar panels are mounted in the correct location on your roof – as sometimes wind damage can occur if modules are mounted too close to the edge or ridge of the roof.

LOCATION

If your installation is within 100km of the coast in Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia, you will probably need cyclone or elevated wind specifications to ensure that your mounting system will be suited to the wind region.

ROOF FRAME AND FIXING SPECIFICATIONS

We will carefully assess the material and thickness of your roof as well as the types of roof screws.

SOLAR PANEL SIZE

We will always ensure that the mounting system fits the panels you are after.

TEST RESULTS

Our suppliers’ put their solar mounting equipment through vigorous testing at places like the James Cook University who put solar panels, mounting frames and fixings through low-high-low (LHL) cyclic load testing which emulates the rapidly oscillating up-and-down forces of cyclonic regions.

Let’s take a closer look at the different mounting options for your solar PV project.

Roof-mounted PV systems

Most residential PV systems are mounted on roofs. Roof-mounted systems are a great choice – there is a wide range of components and systems out there to custom-fit almost any module configuration to almost any roof – flat or pitched, building heights of up to 200m.

As long your roof has enough space to fit the system size you are after and it has good sun exposure, preferably facing due North in Australia, a roof-mounted solar PV system is the right choice for you.

Ground-Mounted PV system

A ground-mounted installation involves a frame that is built for your solar modules which tilts them up to an optimal angle (around 30 degrees) and faces due North (in Australia).

The frame is made from the same durable materials than roof-mount frames, galvanized steel or aluminum, and is attached to the ground via a concrete foundation, rammed poles or even pad footings where other foundations types are not feasible.

Frames can be manually adjustable so that the solar panels can be tilted up for more exposure in the winter time when the sun is lower in the sky. This is usually only done for commercial or utility-scale installations where maximum energy productivity is the aim.

Important things to consider when planning a ground-mounted solar PV installation are the soil conditions as well as required ground clearance i.e. for flooding.

Had Roy come out for a chat and he checked everything over. He was very knowledgeable and gave us information that we didn't know. We signed up that night. QSS ( Quality Solar Systems) weren't the cheapest of the quotes provided but they were the most knowledgeable. Two weeks later it was installed and then, with Roy's help, our solar system was connected to the grid. Can't wait to see how much our power bills will drop. Family of 6, with a pool.
